16% of Canadians will experience infertility in some way, shape or form.

This is a space where we will share their stories, to let others know they are not alone, and to let the healing begin.

Meet Our Contributors: Meaghan's Story

Today we are excited to introduce you to our wonderful contributor, Meaghan. Meaghan's essay is all about male infertility and how it impacted her and her husband's ability to conceive. We don't talk about male infertility enough and we are thankful for Meaghan shedding some light on this topic. Thank you, Meaghan!

1) Why did you decide to share your story in Through, Not Around and with the 16 Percent community?

I hope that others connect with our story. We tried unconventional ways of growing our family. I also wrote the piece because I don't think there's enough openness around male factor infertility, and the complicated feelings that can lead to in both partners.

2) Has writing about your experience helped you heal in any way? What have you learned through this experience so far?

Writing down the story definitely helped me make sense of what happened and helped show me how both my partner and I have changed and grown.

3) Tell us more about you. What are your hobbies/passions/pursuits?

I am a voracious reader, and love to be outside. I teach high school - History and Civics. I love cooking and feeding people I love.

4) What is your favourite quote?

"A life lived in fear in a life half-lived." I spent years terrified that we might never have children. Learning how to live with that fear - and even how to move through it to a more comfortable place of uncertainty - was one of the things I learned during our years of infertility.
